I believe the axolotl’s unique regenerative abilities might allow its lineage to survive far into the future, much like the horseshoe crab. This is a speculative species that has evolved new traits to navigate after earths next global extinction event.
The fragments of technology surrounding symbolize debris and fossilized remnants of our human world. When reflecting on what species survive across millennia, there is some consistency in animals regarded as “living fossils". They are either simple creatures like limpets or brachiopods, or they have some amazing ability, like the horseshoe crabs exceptionally strong immune response, and the axolotls ability to regenerate limbs, and even brain matter.
We are in dark times. Imagining creatures and plants I adore somehow defying all odds, and their lineage surviving for millenia, are thoughts that bring me relief.
